
As Cyclone Nivar wreaked havoc in the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, floods caused by the torrential rainfall have surrounded many fishing villages and Irular settlements. This has greatly affected the people of the area in the coastal areas of Tiruvallur district, as the rainwater entered many homes and damaged properties.
The socially backward Irularcommunity is the worst affected in these floods. 200 Irular individualsfromKulathumedu in the Pulicat Panchayat, 100 individuals from SenchiyammanNagarin the KottaikuppamPanchayat and 50 individuals from Koraikkuppam fishing village in the Tangalperumpulam panchayat have been displaced from their unsafe homes and moved to the Storm and Flood Relief Centres in the vicinity.
These displaced individuals have no means to procure food in this inclement weather. The team members of Adani Foundation have been risking their lives and actively working during these past 2 days to ensure that the people who are in the Relief Camps have regular meals.
AdaniFoundation distributed food items in the presence of Pulicat Panchayat President Mrs. MalathiSaravanan, Vice President Mr. PLC Ravi, Thangalperungulam Panchayat PresidentMr. Gnanavell, VicePresident Mr. Kuppan, Kottaikuppam Panchayat PresidentMr. Sampath and IrularEthnic Leader Mr. Ramesh. The food distribution was overseen by many people including Revenue InspectorMr. Natarajan, Panchayat Ward members, Adani Kattupalli Port and Foundation officials.
