Rare Strain of Bird Flu reported in China – H10N3 sends waves of fear among countries amid the pandemic.
41 year old resident of Jiangsu from Eastern Province of China, was infected with H10N3 strain of bird flu according to China’s National Health Commission on Tuesday.
This is a first human case of infection from the H10N3 strain of bird flu. The man was hospitalized on May 28 after developing fever and other symptoms. He was diagnosed of this strain while undergoing tests in the hospital located in the city of Zhenjiang.
The Health Commission stated that the man has recovered post treatment and is ready for discharge. Other bird flu strains present in China are said to be transmitted to humans who are usually working with poultry. This rare bird flu strain H10N3 is reported to not break out in large scale due to less severity of the strain.
The concern being raised is around the effectiveness of the strain that caused hospitalization, when is general a bird flu is usually mild and does not require hospitalization.

- Stomach pain
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- Altered mental status
The report has caused quite a stir among other countries amid the pandemic phase. Human to Human transmission is feared since there is no vaccination for Bird Flu strains and they are treated as an any other ordinary flu with an anti-viral medication.
